Student Spotlight: Emma Janson (Master of Social Work) and the Giving Closet
Emma Janson, a master of Social Work intern from Roberts Wesleyan University who will graduate in 2026, and Geneseo Central School social worker Courtney Hathaway have been instrumental in launching the Giving Closet for Geneseo Central School, which offers students free access to essential items such as clothing, shoes, and personal care products. The two have worked closely to create a warm, judgment-free space designed to meet students where they are.
The closet provides a discreet and easily accessible option for students during school hours — no appointment needed. From sneakers to hoodies to hygiene supplies, the Giving Closet is available to all middle and high school students, regardless of background or circumstance.
Looking ahead, the Giving Closet team is exploring opportunities to invite community donations beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, helping to ensure the program’s sustainability and continued impact.
