Roberts Wesleyan University has been recognized for its unwavering commitment to expanding educational access and fostering upward mobility for students from historically underserved backgrounds. The university's designation as a high-access institution and opportunity college underscores its dedication to providing transformative educational experiences that empower students to achieve their full potential.

Grant Achievement

Over the last three years, the Career Development Office has been awarded two grants from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE). NetVUE Program Development Grants are funded by the Council of Independent Colleges and Lilly Endowment Inc.

  • Professional Development Grant (2022)

    • This grant facilitated comprehensive training for faculty and staff, focusing on integrating vocational exploration concepts into the student experience.

    • The initiative aimed to cultivate a campus-wide culture that supports students in discerning their callings and preparing for meaningful careers.

  • Program Development Grant (2023)

    • Building upon the previous grant, this two-year, $46,840 award supports the development of a one-credit course centered on vocation and calling.

    • The course incorporates career assessments, mentoring, and networking opportunities, with a particular emphasis on supporting underrepresented and first-generation students in their vocational journeys.

Recognition & Mission: Creating Pathways to Success for Students

Roberts Wesleyan University’s recognition as a high-access institution is further evidenced by its classification in the Carnegie Classifications as “Higher Access, Medium Earnings,” reflecting its role in serving a diverse student population and promoting economic mobility.

In alignment with its mission, Roberts remains steadfast in its commitment to creating pathways to success for all students. Through strategic grant funding, innovative programming, and an institutional culture centered on vocational exploration, the university continues to remove barriers and open doors of opportunity.

“These gifts help university students to discover and live their calling from a professional preparation and liberal arts education focus. Students are prepared and, more importantly, have an opportunity for vocational exploration at Roberts, Flaherty added.

As Roberts looks to the future, these initiatives will serve as the foundation for expanding support systems that empower students from all backgrounds to discover their purpose and achieve meaningful professional success.
