William Sutherland

Mr. Sutherland, originally from Clarence, NY, was appointed Principal Tubist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in September of 2004. Prior to joining the RPO, Craig served as Tubist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, in Charleston, SC. Mr. Sutherland has spent his summers in Santa Fe, NM as a member of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and in Sun Valley, ID as a member of the Sun Valley Music Festival Orchestra.

He has also traveled across the US to perform with notable ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Seattle Symphony. In addition, Craig tours annually with the Burning River Brass Ensemble in Cleveland, OH, and is a member of the RPO brass quintet.

Mr Sutherland received his bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Michigan. Shortly thereafter, Craig was awarded the position of Principal Tubist with the Hofer Symphoniker and Rekkenze Brass Quintet, in Hof, Germany. Upon returning to the States, Mr. Sutherland was awarded a full scholarship to attend The Juilliard School where he earned his master's degree.
