Proposing A Grant

Turning Needs into Opportunities

At Roberts Wesleyan University, we approach every grant as a partnership built on trust, purpose, and shared mission.

Whether a proposal is designed to launch a new program, expand access for students, or strengthen community impact, our process begins with faith and accountability—and ends with measurable results.

Our Approach

Every grant begins with the same foundation:

  • Mission alignment – advancing Roberts’ vision to prepare thoughtful, service-oriented leaders.
  • Clear outcomes – showing what impact looks like and how it will be measured.
  • Responsible stewardship – managing resources with integrity and faithfulness.

We write every grant with both stewardship and vision in mind.

The Proposal Process

1. Identify the Need

Define the challenge or opportunity and how it supports Roberts’ mission.

2. Build the Case

Define the problem or opportunity. What challenge are we addressing? How does it connect to Roberts’ mission and strategic goals?

3. Write & Review

Draft a clear, focused proposal. The Advancement and Finance teams review for accuracy and alignment.

4. Submit & Steward

Once funded, we maintain strong communication and report regularly on progress and results.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Faculty/Staff: Identify opportunities, draft proposals, and manage project goals.
  • Office of Advancement: Provide strategy, editing, and submission guidance.
  • Finance Office: Develop and approve budgets; oversee spending and compliance.
  • Donors & Funders: Receive impact updates and annual reporting.

Budget Development

A clear, accurate budget builds trust and credibility. Every Roberts grant budget includes:

  • Direct Costs: Salaries, materials, travel, and project expenses.
  • Indirect Costs: Administrative support necessary to sustain the work.
  • Matching or In-Kind Support: Institutional contributions that demonstrate commitment.
  • Sustainability Plans: Steps to continue the project beyond the grant period.

All budgets are reviewed for compliance, transparency, and donor intent.
