Jaden Tensley, Class of 2026
When I was choosing colleges, I knew I wanted to study actuarial science.
The only problem was that Roberts didn’t offer that program at the time. Roberts had always felt like home - I’d grown up around the campus, coming for sporting events throughout my life. So I decided to major in mathematics and figure it out from there.
That decision worked out better than I could have imagined once Roberts introduced courses powered by Rize Education.
Suddenly, I could take classes like Data Analytics and Mathematical Theory of Interest that directly connect to what I want to do after graduation.
What I like most about the courses powered by Rize is how they are so directly linked to a practical use in a field you’d be going into. You can point-blank see the connection between what you’re learning and how you’d use it.
For me, these courses make the connection between theory and real work. You get to experience things that you would expect to happen every day on the job: sorting through data, cleaning data, and being able to actually make a story out of it. It gives me more of a look into what I’d actually be doing on a daily basis.
The instructors in my Rize courses have also been great. They’re responsive, thorough, and make sure we really understand the material. Even in an online format, it never feels like you’re on your own.
Taking Rize courses alongside my on-campus math classes has given me a balanced learning experience. I like having both online and in-person classes, as it gives me structure and flexibility at the same time. The online classes have taught me to manage my time and advocate for myself, while the in-person ones let me collaborate more closely with my professors and classmates.
These courses are super practical. If you take a Rize-powered course, you immediately get a taste of what it would be like to be in that field. I felt this with Actuarial Science, and I am sure it is true for the other programs.
You get to experience things that you would expect to happen every day on the job: sorting through data, cleaning data, and being able to actually make a story out of it.

Jaden Tensley
Hi! My name is Jaden Tensley. I’m a senior mathematics major at Roberts Wesleyan University. Math is special to me because of how it is so objective in nature. I’m proud to say that I have completed as well as mentored for Roberts’ Global Honors Program. In my spare time, I enjoy playing soccer on the reserve squad at Roberts. After university, I plan to pursue a career in Actuarial Science!
