As the start of the fall semester approaches, first-year students at Roberts Wesleyan University are preparing to begin their college journey on the Rochester campus. With classes starting at the end of August, now is the time to get organized, feel confident, and step into this new season with purpose.
Here are five practical tips to help Redhawks soar from day one:
1. Be In The Know & Get Involved
Attend events designed to help you settle in, meet new friends, and connect with faculty and staff who are here to support you. Learn how to navigate campus and access your student resources. Attend all welcome events and join a club or two to start building your Redhawk community.
2. Create a Weekly Routine
Attend events designed to help you settle in, meet new friends, and connect with faculty and staff who are here to support you. Learn how to navigate campus and access your student resources. Attend all welcome events and join a club or two to start building your Redhawk community.
Life at Roberts has so many opportunities, so being structured is key to success. Use a planner or digital calendar to organize your class schedule, homework, campus events, and downtime. Practicing your routine ahead of time can help reduce stress once the semester begins.

3. Pack with Purpose
Bring the essentials, including shower shoes, a first-aid kit, a fan, extra lighting, and storage solutions. And don’t forget a few comfort items! Rochester’s weather can shift quickly, especially in the fall.
Be sure to pack your favorite cozy blanket and a hoodie for those crisp, cool mornings on campus.
4. Reach Out and Get Involved
Whether it’s joining a club, attending chapel, or introducing yourself to your roommate, cheering on athletic events, or finding ways to connect, will make your experience more meaningful. Roberts offers a variety of student organizations, service opportunities, and small groups where you can build lasting friendships.

5. Take Care of Your Whole Self
Your health—physical, emotional, and spiritual—is important. Eat well, get enough sleep, stay active, and take advantage of resources like Career Development, the Wellness Center, Student Life, coaches, the Campus Pastor, and more. And remember, Roberts is a Christ-centered community that believes in walking with you every step of the way.
As you prepare to arrive on campus, know that you’ve already taken the first step toward something extraordinary. We can’t wait to welcome you to Roberts Wesleyan University—where your future is full of purpose and possibility.
