Study Abroad

The World is Your Classroom at Roberts

Status: Temporarily Paused

Our Study Abroad program is currently on pause as we review and strengthen future opportunities for global learning and cross-cultural engagement.

If you’re a current or prospective student interested in studying abroad, we encourage you to stay connected. You’re welcome to reach out directly to Dr. Steve Bovee, who oversees the program, with any questions or concerns.

If you're interested in traveling during your time at Roberts, we encourage you to look into the Global Honors program.

Past Study Abroad Experiences

Even though our Study Abroad program is currently paused, we’re proud of the global experiences our students have already had. These past programs represent the kind of hands-on, faith-informed learning we’ll continue to build when the program resumes.

Recent destinations have included:

  • Japan – Teaching English as a Second Language at Osaka Christian College
  • Costa Rica – Exploring transcultural nursing practices and global health
  • Israel – Immersing in cultural and social work studies
  • United Kingdom – Studying fine arts and history in London
  • Italy – Experiencing art, architecture, and theology in Rome and Florence

Each trip combined academic study with real-world cultural immersion, led by Roberts faculty who connected classroom learning to global experience.

While new Study Abroad opportunities are being reviewed, we invite you to read about past student stories, explore faculty-led course highlights, and imagine where Roberts could take you next.

Agustin Rodriguez in Lithuania
Agustin Rodriguez in Lithuania

My Lithuanian study abroad program was the highlight of my college career and opened up the world for me.

I crossed the continent of Europe, from sunny warm beaches of Barcelona, Spain to snowy and cold squares of Moscow, Russia. I had the opportunity to do my internship as a coordinator of the Global Leadership Summit Lithuania and started a version of Enactus on that campus.

I made friends that I Skype with and plan to visit. I learned more about myself and my identity as a result of this study abroad experience.

What a journey it was to get to know these wonderful people! I thank God every day for giving me the opportunity to go to India and experience a new culture.

Two days out of the week, I would go for field work and visit rural communities. I remember playing, dancing, and singing with some of the children. I even remember singing the Irish song, “May the Road Rise Up To Meet You.”

I also learned how to say "what is your name?” in the Tamil language. The smiles on the women’s faces always made my heart melt.

Past Semester Abroad Experiences

Salzburg, Austria

Students explored the art, music, and history of Europe while living in its cultural heart. Semester and summer programs at Salzburg College were open to all majors.

Field trips throughout Austria and Germany, along with three-day weekends for independent travel, made this experience unforgettable.

Oxford, England

Scholars who sought academic rigor joined the Scholars’ Semester in Oxford, where they engaged with leading Western thinkers at the historic Oxford University.

Others participated in the Oxford Summer Programme, sharpening their thinking and exploring the relationship between Christianity and the British Isles while visiting cultural landmarks across the UK and Europe.

Amman, Jordan

Through the Middle East Studies Program, students immersed themselves in the daily life, language, food, culture, and politics of one of the world’s oldest cities.

They learned directly from locals, building community while studying and serving in the heart of the Middle East.

Klaipėda, Lithuania

At LCC International University, students took courses in English alongside classmates from over 30 countries. Field trips and weekend excursions helped them discover Eastern Europe’s art, culture, and history from a fresh perspective.

Ávila, Spain

Spanish majors and minors experienced full immersion in language and culture by living with host families, taking classes in Spanish, and spending weekends exploring the countryside or nearby European cities.

Washington, D.C., USA

Through the American Studies Program, students engaged in public policy, internships, and community development in the nation’s capital. They met policymakers and explored how faith and vocation intersect in the public square.
